The climate initiative consists out of three steps:
1. CO2 calculation 2. CO2 reduction 3. CO2 compensation
1. Step CO2 calculation:To demonstrate which emissions are produced by a print job, PaperGate has stored on a so - called CO2 - calculator own operating data as well as values for the used papers in the production of print products. Feeding the CO2 - calculator with the data of all print products of a customer it will generate a complete CO2 balance for his print products. This is the basis for a concept to avoid permanently CO2 emissions.
2. Step
CO2 reduction: Based on the permanently updated CO2 balances customer of PaperGate are able to develop a own strategy for the reduction of CO2 emissions in paper and print products as well as to monitor the success. Furthermore, CO2 balances can be used for own public relation work. The balances are available to the customers on the internet server of PaperGate and shall sustainably reduce the CO2 emissions.
3. Step
CO2 compensation: PaperGate is in the position to compensate the calculated CO2 value on behalf of the customer by buying certificates of climate protection projects for the produced CO2 emissions. The certificates can be booked directly from PaperGate. Print products which have been CO2 - compensated by certificates may carry the mark “Print - CO2 - compensated”.
